Common Breast Conditions

Fibroadenomas: These are small, solid lumps containing fibrous tissues which develop in the breast. They are fairly harmless and are not cancerous. They usually appear during your period and in many cases will go away on their own. If they persist or are too painful, you can speak to your doctor about treatment.

Fibrocystic breast changes: These small lumps are sacs filled with fluid. They can make your breasts feel lumpy, tender or painful. Again, these are not cancerous lumps and with proper care and treatment the symptoms can be relieved. Speak to your doctor about the ways in which you can treat and relieve these lumps.

Infection: Yes, you can get infections on your breasts. This can happen if you get a cut or sore on your breast and don’t have it treated. As a result, harmful bacteria can grow and cause redness, red lines on the skin, or tenderness. You may also get a fever. If you suspect that you have an infection, visit your doctor as you may need antibiotics to treat it.

Rash: Sometimes you may experience dry, scaly, red and itchy skin on your breasts. This is most likely a rash which can occur because your skin is sensitive to the type of material used in your bra, or because of sweat in the hot summer months. Let your skin breathe at night by not wearing a bra to bed or use topical creams to clear it up. If the rash persists then speak to your doctor about the causes and treatment for it.
